Module 2
Introduction
Now that we have successfully installed Linux as a Virtual Machine (VM), let us learn some of the basic commands. We will learn how to use the command line interface (CLI). You might not always have a GUI (Graphical User Interface) to rely on. Having knowledge of the Linux CLI will provide you with the ability to use and operate Linux in any situation. You will also understand how to link commands together, redirect output of commands to another command or to a file. Finally, you will be able to view, manipulate and search files. Yes, you might be able to find a GUI tool that does the same thing as you can do on the CLI, but I personally find that I can sometimes do something a lot quicker and easier using the CLI then I can with trying to use a GUI. While learning about the CLI we will also learn how to maintain hardware and determine what hardware is available on our system.
If you are not familiar with a CLI think of this as a text based way to interact with your OS. I know this module contains a lot of new commands. I am not expecting you to memorize each one, but I am expecting you to understand the CLI and be able to use each command if/when needed.
