Module 1

Introduction:

Before we start to learn about Linux and a new operating system (OS) we will spend some time with learning what actually is an OS. While covering the basics of what an OS we will focus on learning theory behind how OS operate. We will talk about the differences between filesystems and the pros/cons of each one. During this module we will do a brief introduction about what is open source and what it means. This is important for us to understand as Linux is an open source OS.

We will look at installing Linux. When we install Linux, actually any OS, we need to think about how we will partition our hard drive(s). We will learn about the requirements and filesystem structure of Linux. Finally, after we have Linux installed and running we will learn how to install and maintain the OS.

Each page within this module covers one of the mentioned topics.
